MyDegreePlan

Degree planning, kept private

Map your whole degree.
Keep your data to yourself.

MyDegreePlan lays out every semester, checks prerequisites for you, and runs entirely on your own computer, so no one else ever sees your plan.

Free. Windows 10 or 11, nothing else to install. On Mac or Linux, use the Docker install.

What it does

Semester-by-semester grid

See every course you still need, laid out across your remaining semesters.

Prerequisite checking

Get warned when a course is planned before its prerequisites or corequisites are met.

Degree programs

Pick your college, major, and concentration, and start from the recommended plan for your catalog year.

Prior credit wizard

Enter AP, IB, and transfer credit; covered courses drop off your plan automatically.

Drag and drop

Move courses between semesters and see the effect immediately.

Progress tracking

Past semesters count as passed automatically, and your credit totals and projected graduation update as you plan.

Private by design

Your plan lives on your own disk. There is no account with us and no server holding your data.

Only you can open it

The app opens its own window and listens on no network port, so nothing on your Wi-Fi can reach it.

No third parties

Opening the planner contacts no analytics, fonts, or ad services, and the app window is blocked from connecting anywhere else.

One small outbound check

To offer updates, the app asks GitHub whether a newer version exists. Nothing about you or your plan is sent.

Your plan is stored in your Windows user profile. Protect the laptop itself with a login password and disk encryption (BitLocker), and use Export in Settings to keep a backup copy.

Get started in three steps

  1. Download the installer. MyDegreePlan-Setup.exe (112.7 MB).
  2. Run it. It installs for your account only and needs no administrator rights. If Windows says "Windows protected your PC", that is because the installer is not code-signed yet: choose More info, then Run anyway.
  3. Open MyDegreePlan. It starts when the install finishes, and later from the Start menu. Choose your program and start planning. There is no account to create.

New versions arrive through a card inside the app. You choose when to download and when to restart, and your plan is kept.

Mac, Linux, or you prefer Docker

The Docker install runs the same planner in containers. It is the way to use MyDegreePlan on Mac and Linux.

  1. Install Docker Desktop. Get it from Docker (free for personal and educational use) and make sure it is running. This is the longest step.
  2. Download and unzip the MyDegreePlan folder anywhere, for example in Documents.
  3. Start it. On Windows, double-click mdp.cmd. On Mac or Linux, open a terminal in the folder and run sh mdp.sh start. The first start takes a few minutes, then your browser opens. If Windows says "Windows protected your PC", choose More info, then Run anyway.

Create an account with any email and an 8+ character password. Nothing is emailed or verified. Updates then arrive through an Update now button inside the app.

Coming back later

On Windows, the first start adds a MyDegreePlan shortcut to your Desktop. Double-click it and it starts Docker Desktop if needed, then opens the app. You can also bookmark http://localhost:8080: once Docker Desktop is running, the app is already there. Keep the .env file in the folder, because it belongs to your data.

Version 0.3.0 · October 13, 2026

Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.

What's new

You can now add a secondary major or a minor to your plan. Settings has a Your major(s) section: change your major, add or remove majors, and make any of them your primary major. Courses your majors share appear once and count toward each. The plan, requirements and PDFs name every program, and a what-if in Settings shows what adding one would do to your finish. The program picker is one screen per step, Biology and Chemistry are open, and the math sequence screen is gone.

In PowerShell: Get-FileHash MyDegreePlan-Setup.exe. The installer is not code-signed yet, so this checks that the file you got is the one published.

Questions

Do I need to be online?

Only to download it and to get updates. Planning works fully offline once it is running.

Why does Windows warn me when I run the installer?

The installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen does not recognize the publisher. Choose More info, then Run anyway. You can compare the file's SHA-256 with the one listed under Download first.

How do I move to a new computer?

In the app, open Settings and choose Export to save a backup file. On the new computer, install MyDegreePlan and choose Import on the first screen, or in Settings.

How do I uninstall it?

Windows Settings, then Apps, then MyDegreePlan, then Uninstall. Your plan is kept so a reinstall finds it. To remove it too, choose Erase in the app's Settings before you uninstall.

Docker install questions
The launcher says ".env is missing but a database already exists"

You started from a folder that doesn't have the original .env file, and this computer already holds a plan. Copy the .env from your original MyDegreePlan folder into this one. Do not run mdp wipe unless you want to permanently delete your plan.

What if I forget my password?

There is no reset email. Run mdp reset-password your@email from the folder to set a new one.

How do I move to a new computer?

Run mdp backup to create a file in backups/, copy that folder and your .env file over, then run mdp restore.

Is this an official registration or advising tool?

No. It is a planning aid. Always confirm requirements with your academic advisor.
